QueensPride Grapes

A New York Original

QueensPride table grapes are unique and delicious. The variety originated in a backyard in Ridgewood, Queens.

The grapes' flavor is distinctive and complex. Tasters have described cardamom, vanilla, lychee, and Gewürztraminer notes. The longer the grapes stay on the vine, the more complex their flavor becomes. They reach peak flavor when the grapes turn golden (as in the lower photo, showing the grapes in a red bag).

The grapes are extremely sweet. Because they develop sugar so early, they can be harvested over a period of several weeks, reaching peak flavor after a couple of weeks. Eventually acidity becomes very low, but the grapes can still be made into excellent juice.

The vines are vigorous and extremely hardy in the New York City area, having weathered record cold and record heat without damage.

Healthway Farms in Highland, New York has planted fourteen vines, which are thriving and productive. They sell the grapes exclusively at green markets, where they sell out every day.
